Universal Design, also known as “design for all” and “inclusive design”, seeks to make products, services, and environments usable by as many people possible, regardless of age or ability.  The beauty of the Universal Design concept is that homes with these design elements look like other homes but are easier for the occupants to use.  Universal Design can accommodate those with existing handicaps, can be integrated into a home for a younger family for “aging in place” planning, or can simply be a home that accommodates occupants of all ages.  

Creating a more livable home without compromising appealing design avoids the need to remodel or redesign at possible significant cost later.  Universal Design concepts can be used to make a space manageable for an aging parent, a child, an occupant with a special physical need, or when an occupant’s needs change.  Universal Design makes a home easier for those managing strollers, carrying groceries or maneuvering a wheelchair.

It is not unusual for someone in a household to have a special need.  This can be as simple as having allergies or as complex as being a quadriplegic.  In some instances, a family simply prefers to have a home that is easier to live in and use.  Universal Design is but one of many accommodations that we seek to utilize through our unique Infusion Design™ to make a home more comfortable for our clients.
